Terms of Service

Last updated July 19, 2026

Thank you for using Frontmatter! When we say "Company", "we", "our", or "us" in this document, we are referring to Meehan Technologies LLC. When we say "Services", we mean frontmatter.news: the site, which tracks the component specifications of AI coding tools, and the Frontmatter Wire, our paid email subscription. When we say "you" or "your", we are referring to the people who read the site and subscribe to the wire.

We may update these Terms of Service in the future. Whenever we make a significant change, we will refresh the date at the top of this page. When you use our Services, now or in the future, you are agreeing to the latest Terms. There may be times where we do not exercise or enforce a right or provision of the Terms; that does not mean we are waiving that right or provision. These Terms do contain a limitation of our liability.

Subscription Terms

  1. There are no accounts here. Subscribing to the wire happens on Stripe's hosted checkout, where your email address is collected; managing and cancelling happen on Stripe's billing portal. Your email address is your subscription, so keep it current through the portal.
  2. You must be a human. Subscriptions registered by "bots" or other automated methods are not permitted.

Payment and Refunds

  1. The site is free to read, and it is really free: we do not ask you for your credit card and we do not sell your data.
  2. The wire is paid in advance. Payments are processed by Stripe, the merchant of record, which also collects and remits any applicable taxes.
  3. Bad refund policies are infuriating, and we never want you to feel ripped off. If you were just charged for a period you meant to cancel, or you tried the wire for a while and just weren't happy with it, contact us at [email protected] and we'll take care of you. The edge cases come down to a case-by-case basis. Tell us what's up and we'll work with you to make sure you're happy.

Cancellation and Termination

  1. You can cancel any time from the billing portal; your subscription runs to the end of the period you paid for, and we do not automatically prorate unused time. Unsubscribing from the emails does not cancel billing; cancelling billing is the off switch.
  2. We have the right to suspend or terminate a subscription and to refuse any and all current or future use of our Services, without refund, for violating these Terms. Statistically speaking, somebody is always doing something nefarious; this clause is how we deal with them.
  3. Verbal, physical, written or other abuse (including threats of abuse or retribution) of anyone working on the Services will result in immediate termination.

Modifications to the Service and Prices

  1. We reserve the right at any time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, any part of our Services with or without notice.
  2. Sometimes we change our pricing. If we change the price for existing subscribers, we will give at least 30 days notice via the email address on record before the new rate applies.

Uptime, Security, and Privacy

  1. Your use of the Services is at your sole risk. We provide these Services on an "as is" and "as available" basis, with no service-level agreement.
  2. When you subscribe, you entrust us with your email address. We take that trust to heart. You agree that we may process your data as described in our Privacy policy and for no other purpose. We store no subscriber data on our own servers; it lives with the processors that run the Services: Stripe (billing), Resend (email delivery), and PostHog (analytics).
  3. We are a US company and the Services' data infrastructure is located in the US. We only preserve or share data if compelled by a US government authority with a legally binding order, and our policy is to notify affected subscribers before we disclose data unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.

Copyright and Content Ownership

  1. The site's specs are facts extracted from each vendor's public documentation, with links back to the source. The tools and their names belong to their vendors; we are affiliated with none of them and claim no ownership over their documentation or marks.
  2. The Company owns all right, title, and interest in and to the Services themselves: the compilation, the wire's content, and the site's design. You may not duplicate, copy, or reuse any portion of the HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or visual design elements without express written permission from the Company.
  3. Your subscription is a personal, non-transferable license to receive and read the wire. You may quote brief excerpts with attribution. You may not republish, redistribute, resell, or systematically extract wire content, whether by forwarding at scale, mirroring, scraping, or feeding it into a competing product or dataset.
  4. You agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any portion of the Services without the express written permission of the Company.

Features and Bugs

We design our Services with care, based on our own experience and the experiences of readers who share their time and feedback. However, there is no such thing as a service that pleases everybody, and no such thing as software without bugs. The specs on the site are extracted from vendors' documentation and can lag or err; that is why every fact links back to its source. We make no guarantees that our Services will meet your specific requirements or expectations, or be completely error-free.

Liability

We mention liability throughout these Terms but to put it all in one section:

You expressly understand and agree that the Company shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, including, but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses (even if the Company has been advised of the possibility of such damages), resulting from: (i) the use or the inability to use the Services; (ii) the cost of procurement of substitute goods and services resulting from any goods, data, information or services purchased or obtained or messages received or transactions entered into through or from the Services; (iii) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) statements or conduct of any third party on the service; (v) or any other matter relating to these Terms or the Services, whether as a breach of contract, tort (including negligence whether active or passive), or any other theory of liability.

In other words: choosing to use our Services does mean you are making a bet on us. If the bet does not work out, that's on you, not us. We do our darnedest to be as safe a bet as possible. If you choose to use our Services, thank you for betting on us.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Washington, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

If you have a question about any of these Terms, please contact us at [email protected].
